Toledo had great set up for the tournament- visual aids and banners, art work done by volunteers: see for yourself Tournament Directors/coaches at work, using every moment of the district event to teach the kids how to be comfortable in the Tournament environment, answering their questions and making them more confident in their abilities. Players, concentrating, getting smarter move by move... The most important step in development kids as chess players- learning how to notate- write down their moves, so that they could re-play it later on with the coach and analyze the mistakes. It also allows them to be literate in chess language and will give them a chance to look at the games of the famous chess players in order to improve their own games. All those kids did an excellent job during the district tournament and thanks to the usual collaboration of the BNYCF and the Toledo Chess Association, the event was fun and educational event. After the event, the kids who were selected for the Olympiad received additional training on notation and use of the clocks.
We are not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting chess, as an educational tool, among the disenfranchised youth of Belize. We use chess as an educational and motivational tool for the purpose of stimulating their interest in the intellectual activity that will enhance their academic and social skills, while making learning fun and providing an environment that will keep them off the streets.
